Waterschap Dijkgedicht - Flevopark

Due to climate change, strong dikes in our country are more important than ever. Soil is sagging, sea levels are rising and biodiversity is under pressure. This year’s poem symbolizes the connection between people and nature, showing how we’re all responsible for taking care of our environment together. Flevopark, where a dike improvement took place and the poem was placed, has a very high biodiversity and must be protected. With more than 19 protected species, including many nocturnal animals, the choice fell to Freek Wallagh, the night-mayor of Amsterdam.

Dijkgedicht 2024 ‘Ons Flevopark’

Met m’n poten in het riet,

En m’n voeten in het water,

Vereeuwigen wij de zonsopgang.

Van het gebrul van duizend Amsterdammers,

Naar het gefluister van een vleermuis,

Samen wakend over onze tuin.

Als jij slaapt neem ik de wacht over.

Houd jij ‘s ochtends dan mijn voeten droog?
